The very full curriculum provided for medical students today allows little time to deal with the more qualitative aspects of how to balance the pressures of a professional career with one's needs as a whole person and one's responsibilities to family and community. The value of role models and mentoring in supporting, and gently nurturing, the inherent skill of the young physician certainly strikes a chord with my own views.
