Professor José Florencio Fabella Lapeña, Jr.

Joey Lapeña is Professor of Otolaryngology, U.P. College of Medicine, former Vice Chancellor, University of the Philippines Manila and Attending Otolaryngologist, Philippine General Hospital with special interests in pediatric cleft and aero-digestive surgery, medical education, mentoring, writing and peer review. He has degrees in Philosophy and Letters, Social Sciences (Sociology), Medicine and Surgery; residency training in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery; and fellowships in Paediatric Otolaryngology, Cleft and Craniofacial Plastic Surgery. He is Editor-in-Chief of the Philippine Journal of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, President of the Philippine Association of Medical Journal Editors, Past President of the Asia-Pacific Association of Medical Journal Editors, and Director of the World Association of Medical Editors. Aside from the MJA, he is on the Editorial Board of 7 journals, International Advisory/Editorial Board of 3 others, and reviews for 4 more. Married to a family physician, he has 3 daughters and 2 grandchildren.
