MJA Centenary Series 3

The third podcast in our Centenary Year series features Professor Michael Ashby, director of palliative care at the Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH) and Southern Tasmania Area Heath Service. He holds a conjoint position as professor of palliative care, Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Tasmania, and chairs the Clinical Ethics Committee at RHH. Professor Ashby talks about the need for more open debate about death and dying and the ways doctors can facilitate a "good death". Their conversation also canvasses the public health response to the discussion of death and the future of palliative care, including the controversial topic of euthanasia.
