We acknowledge the letter by Dhaliwal and Welborn on our article.1 A healthy lifestyle is recommended for all Australians and, particularly for those at high absolute cardiovascular risk, attending to lifestyle risk factors is critical. However, patients at high cardiovascular risk are clearly indicated for medical therapy, including blood pressure and lipid-lowering therapies and aspirin. Optimising the patients’ lifestyle risk factors does not obviate this need for medical therapy.
