Professor Susan Sawyer MBBS MD FRACP holds the Geoff and Helen Handbury Chair of Adolescent Health at the University of Melbourne and is Director of the Centre for Adolescent Health at the Royal Children’s Hospital. A paediatrician by training, she is internationally recognised for her leadership in adolescent health. She is increasingly focussed on global issues and has undertaken various advisory roles with the World Health Organisation, UNICEF, UNFPA and the World Bank. From 2011-16, she chaired WHO’s Technical Steering Committee for Maternal Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health. In 2016, she was a lead Commissioner for the Lancet Commission on Adolescent Health and Wellbeing. She is highly published with over 250 peer review publications, 40 book chapters and a textbook on adolescent health and medicine. She is the current president of the International Association for Adolescent Health.
