The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (RANZCO) has appointed Dr David Andrews (PhD) as its new Chief Executive Officer and member of its board of directors, replacing Acting CEO Mr Laurie Pincott.

Dr Andrews said he was excited to be part of RANZCO, building on its superior reputation for quality education and member services.

“I also look forward to working on some of the challenges facing ophthalmologists today; namely a growing older population with increasing eye problems, a largely underserviced population in rural and remote areas and a stagnant or shrinking health budget”, he said.

RANZCO president Dr Stephen Best welcomed the new CEO’s experience and leadership, saying: “Dr Andrews brings extensive experience to his new role, having previously served as chief operating officer of the Woolcock Institute”.

“David will be able to build on the stable foundations the College has created over the past 75 years and continue to develop the good work of ophthalmologists in an increasingly challenging medical environment.”
